Rb Reber Layout / Previs Reel 2024

With the recent release of the latest season of Marvel Studios’ What If...?, I figured it would be the perfect time to update my reel. I’m extremely proud to share a compilation of some of my personal favorite sequences from various projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on over the years.

I feel very fortunate and humbled to have worked on these amazing projects, and am forever grateful to the people who gave me the chance to show what I can bring to the table. Huge props to the entire team and everyone involved in making these shows!

Captain America (Previs Practice)

My favorite Avenger. Huge fan of the Marvel films, and was inspired by Avengers: Age of Ultron for this one. Comments and critiques are welcome. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thank you and hope you guys enjoy it! :)

My personal goal for this piece was for me to practice and understand more how a chase or major action sequence while moving within the environment works. Did my research on chase/action sequences from different films, and how Marvel does it with their work.

Spider-Man (Previs Practice)

Inspired by the Spider-Man PS4 game.

Have been working on this whenever I have free time or not too busy. Mainly focused on choreography, camera movement, and continuity. Comments and critiques are welcome. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thank you and hope you guys enjoy it! :)

Also researched on Spider-Man's fight style, on how he particularly fights. My work is basically influenced by different fighting styles such as lucha libre, capoeira, and agile movements, flips, and poses we often see Spider-Man do himself.

Ant-Man (Previs Practice)

Practiced more layout (previs/cinematics) by doing a more action oriented sequence. Mainly focused on choreography, camera movement, and continuity. Comments and critiques are welcome. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thank you and hope you guys enjoy it! :)

I'm a huge fan of the Ant-Man movies, and wanted to try making my own "Kitchen Fight Scene" just like in the sequel. But this time instead of The Wasp, I wanted to show how Ant-Man would fare in the exact same situation. It was also really fun to emulate the shrinking/growing effect, just like in the films.

I got a lot of amazing feedback on my previous work from various people, which really helped me out a lot to create this new piece.

Shake & Bake

Been doing this shot on and off whenever I have free time, wanted to brush up on my body mechanics animation more. I've been wanting to animate a basketball sequence for a while now, while keeping the cinematography in mind again.

Come of Age

Another one of my animations I never really got to share here on my blog.

Tried out this free tiger rig and practiced on my quadruped animation more. Also wanted to animate the face of the tiger and do a bit more facial acting with it since it had a nice setup. Thought of what better audio to use than the voice of one of the most popular tiger characters ever, Shere Khan from The Jungle Book.

Haircut

I never really got to share this animation here on my blog, so I'm doing so now.

I wanted to test out this free Judy Hopps rig from Zootopia. Creating interesting mouth shapes was a challenge but it was fun overall.

Blow Your Head Off

Wanted to try out the Will character rig I bought from Long Winter Studios. I was at the cinema a few weeks back when the trailer for the movie "Kong: Skull Island" played, and I thought a line that was delivered by Samuel L. Jackson during the trailer would be perfect for the shot I wanted to animate.

Here's a breakdown of my "Blow Your Head Off" shot

Block - Blocked the key poses for my animation.
Spline - Tried to get the overall feel and timing of my animation.
Polish - Adjusted and deleted movements for smoother flow of movement. Polished the timing, spacing, and feel of my animation.
Finalizing - Finally I added the facial animation and polished the mechanics more. I also modified the rig a bit as well as animating the stool to give the sense movement.

Hope you guys like it! :)

Waiting Around

I animated this shot as a start for my weekly animation challenge for self growth. I was going for 3.5 seconds worth of animation per week, but I went ahead and overdid it with this one since this dialogue has about 8.5 seconds in total. My goal for this weekly challenge for myself is to animate different kinds of shots each week which I have not yet been able to do, whether it may be a dialogue, creature, pantomime or any other kind of shot. I don't compel myself to upload an animation weekly, but I wanted to make sure I can produce an output with the highest quality possible that I can within the time span of a week.

This shot took me about 2 weeks to finish, and I've been doing this at home and whenever I have free time at work. I've always wanted to animate a dialogue shot with an accent other than the american accent, particularly Irish, Scottish, or British. I went ahead with an Irish accent on this one since I really really like Irish people's accents. It was a real challenge to find a good sound file for my shot but I eventually ended up cutting a snippet from an interview of Domhnall Gleeson.

Here's a breakdown of my "Waiting Around" shot

Block - Blocked the key poses for my animation. Went ahead and did the body poses first then moved on to the fingers.
Spline - Tried to get the overall feel and timing of my animation. Started polishing a little bit on this step too.
Polish - Really polished my animation to make sure I get all the necessary body mechanics that I wanted. Adjusted timing, spacing, and also added subtle details to make it feel more alive.
Finalizing - Finally I added the facial animation of my shot, starting with the eyes and eyebrows to really convey the emotion of what the character is saying. Then I moved on to lip syncing to give my animation the final touches. I also polished the mechanics a little bit more removing the unnecessary movements that I didn't want.

Hope you guys like it! :)
